Help speaking italian?

Ok so my grandfather was from tres castagnas, italy. He spoke italian fluently, and my mother knows some, but she cant teach me much, because she understands more than she speaks. I really want to learn italian. I think it would be so cool to learn. What are some good, fast, and easy ways to learn italian? I bought this book Italian, for dummies, and ive been reading it. I want to be able to visit italy and be able to find my way around without using english. Can anyone reccomend anything?
Oh i forgot to say my grandfather is dead, and my grandmother lives far away.

My mothers side of the family is full blooded Italian, so her parents and their parents speak Italian and are from Italy and I learned a lot of it by just being around them. Talk to your grandfather [if he knows any English] I'm sure he will help you. I find it easier to learn being around someone who speaks it and tells you what it means and how to say it. Oh, and if you ever do go to Italy, that helps to. Cause like I said being around the language helps you better understand it. And don't worry so much about the pronunciation, worry about the meaning in your head.

Is This Really Assault... My Old Italian Grandfather Smacked Somebody On The Back Of The Head?

My 75 year old grandfather got into a fight (i can't believe this) in the supermarket.
Apparently someone was causing a problem with the clerk on line in front of him so my grandfather got fed up and he slapped the guy in the face a few times and grabbed his face and shook it back and forth and up sided the person on the back of the head a few times saying "come on. come on... what's goin on here?" He even had an Italian moment, and kneed the guy in the crotch repeatedly until security took him away.
He's like this stereotypical little old Italian guy.. like Joe Pesci or a scene from Goodfellas where people upside each other on the back of the head calling one a dummy - it was something like that.Well he was arrested and booked for this - I didn't know how serious this is..

Yeah, it's assault. He did a lot more than smack someone on the back of the head, especially by kneeing him in the groin. Hopefully the judge will consider his age and let him off with probation.
