These default settings have been a trap for some people. For some stupid reason, the release of IvyBot v37 came out with its default stop loss set at 112 (pips).

That is a VERY large loss point, and many people got hurt by it. The optimal setting for stop loss is 35! The support or lack of it is so bad that it has spawned a completely separate business and mini industry. Realities of Space: Science of Real Space Battles

Now, Let's Talk Technology

First, pending a major development in propulsion technology, combat spacecraft would likely get around the same way the Apollo spacecraft went to the Moon and back: with orbit changes effected by discrete main-engine burns. The only other major option is a propulsion system like ion engines or solar sails, which produce a very low amount of thrust over a very long time. However, the greater speed from burning a chemical, nuclear, or antimatter rocket in a single maneuver is likely a better tactical option. One implication of rocket propulsion is that there will be relatively long periods during which Newtonian physics govern the motions of dogfighting spacecraft, punctuated by relatively short periods of maneuvering. Another is that combat in orbit would be very different from combat in "deep space," which is what you probably think of as how space combat should be - where a spacecraft thrusts one way, and then keeps going that way forever. No, around a planet, the tactical advantage in a battle would be determined by orbit dynamics: which ship is in a lower (and faster) orbit than which; who has a circular orbit and who has gone for an ellipse; relative rendezvous trajectories that look like winding spirals rather than straight lines.

Second, there are only a few ways to maneuver the attitude of a spacecraft around - to point it in a new direction. The fast ways to do that are to fire an off-center thruster or to tilt a gyroscope around to generate a torque. Attitude maneuvers would be critical to point the main engine of a space fighter to set up for a burn, or to point the weapons systems at an enemy. Either way, concealing the attitude maneuvers of the space fighter would be important to gain a tactical advantage. So I think gyroscopes ("CMGs," in the spacecraft lingo) would be a better way to go - they could invisibly live entirely within the space fighter hull, and wouldn't need to be mounted on any long booms (which would increase the radar, visible, and physical cross-section of the fighter) to get the most torque on the craft. With some big CMGs, a spacecraft could flip end-for-end in a matter of seconds or less. If you come upon a starfighter with some big, spherical bulbs near the midsection, they are probably whopping big CMGs and the thing will be able to point its guns at you wherever you go. To mitigate some of the directionality of things like weapons fire and thruster burns, space fighters would probably have weapons and engines mounted at various points around their hull; but a culture interested in efficiently mass-producing space warships would probably be concerned about manufacturing so many precision parts for a relatively fragile vessel, and the craft would likely only have one main engine rather than, say, four equal tetrahedral engines.

How About Weapons?

We have to consider just how you might damage a spacecraft to put it out of action.

Explosions are basically a waste of energy in space. On the ground, these are devastating because of the shock wave that goes along with them. But in the vacuum of space, an explosion just creates some tenuous, expanding gases that would be easily dissipated by a hull. No, to damage spacecraft systems, you can't hit them with gas unless it's really, really concentrated and energetic. So unless you want to just wait till your enemy is close enough that you can point your engines at him, the best bets for ranged weapons are kinetic impactors and radiation.

A kinetic impactor is basically just a slug that goes really fast and hits the enemy fighter, tearing through the hull, damaging delicate systems with vibrations, throwing gyroscopes out of alignment so that they spin into their enclosures and explode into shards, puncturing tanks of fuel and other consumables, or directly killing the pilot and crew. You know...bullets. But it sounds much more technical and science-fictiony to say "mass driver" or "kinetic lance" or something of the sort. Of course, the simplest way to implement this sort of weapon in space is just as some kind of machine gun or cannon. Those will work in space (ask the Soviets, they tested a cannon on their first Salyut space station), and the shells will do plenty of damage if they hit anything. However, space is filled mostly with empty space, and hitting the enemy ships might be a challenge. Furthermore, if the impactors are too large, the enemy could counter them by firing their own point-defense slugs and knocking the shells out of line. Therefore, I contend that the most effective kinetic space weapons would be either flak shells or actively thrusting, guided missiles. The flak shells would explode into a hail of fragmented shards, able to tear through un-armored systems of many craft at once without the shell directly hitting its target, or able to strike a target even after it tries to evade with a last-minute engine burn. The missiles would be a bit different from the missiles we are used to on Earth, which must continuously thrust to sustain flight. In space, such a weapon would rapidly exhaust its fuel and simply become a dummy shell. No, a space missile would either be fired as an unguided projectile and power up its engine after drifting most of the way to its target, or it would fire its engine in sporadic, short bursts. A definite downside to kinetic weapons on a starfighter is that they would impart momentum to the fighter or change its mass properties. Very large cannons or missiles might therefore be impractical, unless the fighter can quickly compensate for what is essentially a large rocket firing. Even that compensation might give the enemy just the window he needs...

Radiation-based weapons that burn out the electronics of a spacecraft sound exotic, but are still potentially achievable. This would be the attraction of nuclear weapons in space: not the explosion, which would affect just about nothing, but the burst of energetic particles and the ensuing electromagnetic storm. Still, such a burst would have to be either pretty close to the target vessel to scramble its systems, or it would have to be made directional in some way, to focus the gamma-ray and zinging-proton blast. But while we're talking about focused energy weapons, lets just go with a tool that we already use to cut sheet metal on Earth: lasers. In space, laser light will travel almost forever without dissipating from diffraction. Given a large enough power supply, lasers could be used at range to slice up enemy warships. The key phrase there, though, is "given a large enough power supply." Power is hard to come by in the space business. So, expect space laser weapons to take one of three forms: small lasers designed not to destroy, but to blind and confuse enemy sensors; medium-sized lasers that would be fired infrequently and aimed to melt specific vulnerable points on enemy space fighters, like antennae, gimbals, and maneuvering thrusters; and large lasers pumped by the discharge from a large capacitor or similar energy storage device to cut a physical slice into the enemy craft wherever they hit. Such a large weapon would likely only be fired at the very beginning of a battle, because the commander of a ship with such a weapon would not want to keep his capacitor charged when it might unexpectedly blow its energy all at once once he's in the thick of things.

Deflector shields like those in fiction are not possible at present, but it would still make sense to armor combat spacecraft to a limited extent. The spaceframes of the fighters would likely be designed solely for the space environment; the actual ships would be launched within the payload fairings of a rocket or assembled in space. If launched from the ground, armor must be minimized to reduce the launch weight of the spacecraft. But if built and launched in space, it would make sense to plate over vital systems of the vehicle. Thick armor would prevent flak or small lasers from piercing delicate components, and might mitigate a direct strike from a kinetic impactor or heavy cutting laser. However, the more heavily armored and massive a space fighter is, the more thrust it will take to maneuver in orbit and the more energy it will take to spin in place. (Here's where computer games get space combat all wrong: the mass of a huge space cruiser would not place an upper limit on the speed of a vehicle, but it would reduce the acceleration a given engine could produce compared to the same engine on a less massive vehicle.)

I'm assuming that we'd have some intrepid members of the United Earth Space Force crewing these combat vessels. Or, at least, crewing some of them - robotic drone fighters would be a tremendous boon to space soldiers, but the communication lag between planets and vessels in orbit would make the split-second judgments of humans necessary at times. (Until we perfect AIs... but if we're giving them the space fighters from the beginning, we deserve the robot uprising we'll get.) The crews will hardly be sitting around nice conference-room command bridges with no seat belts; nor will they be standing upright in slate-gray console pits with glowing glass displays all over. It's not even a good idea for them to have windows, which would be vulnerable to flak and could give the crew an intense sense of disorientation as the spacecraft maneuvers, and could give them tremendous trouble adapting to rapid changes in light levels as the ship rotates near a planet or star. No, they should be strapped into secure couches and centrally located in the most protected part of the spacecraft. They should also be in full pressure suits, and the interior cabin of the spacecraft should already be evacuated - to prevent fires, or any secondary damage if all the atmosphere rushes out a hull breach. This also reduces the need for escape pods. Camera views from the exterior of the ship and graphical representations of the tactical situation would then be projected directly onto helmet faceplates.

Now, for the final word, let's say the United Earth Space Force defeats the Martian rebels in orbit. What do we do to hit them on the ground? Well, strategic weapons from space are easy: kinetic impactors again. You chuck big ol' spears, aerodynamically shaped so they stay on target and don't burn up in the atmosphere, onto ground targets and watch gravitational potential energy turn into kinetic energy and excavate you a brand-new crater. At some point, though, the imperialist Earthlings probably want to take over the existing infrastructure on Mars. Time to get out the Space Marines!

It's not terribly expensive or difficult, comparatively speaking, to get people from orbit down to a planet surface. You fall. This is the purpose of a space capsule. What's really, really, prohibitively difficult is getting them back up again. So, the victorious orbital forces would have to bring in a transport ship chock full of Space Marines and drop them all at once in little capsules (little because they can only be so big for the atmosphere to effectively brake them, and because you don't want all your Marines perishing in some unfortunate incident). Some orbital forces would remain in place to threaten the ground with bombardment and give the Marines a bit more muscle, but really, the ground-pounders are going to have to be pretty self-sufficient. If they ever want to come back up, they would have to build and/or fuel their own ascent vehicle. (This is the problem facing any NASA Mars efforts, too: getting back up through the Martian atmosphere is much harder than any of the lunar ascents were.)

I am a 56 year old college student. All of my other grades are mostly an A/B student except for math. I am a dummy in math/Algebra. Will someone please tell where I can find a book or CD that will explain math problems in simple terms, or tell me where I may be able to order it.

Just a couple of comments. I would NOT recommend going out there and buying any expensive texts or DVD/CDs to learn alegbra - it is something that has been around since forever, and has more or less remained the same at the building-blocks level. So the same thing they were reaching 500 years ago still holds today. What you need to become successful in math is simply practice. If you're taking a class in Algebra, just use the text. I would also advise just looking at your college library's collection - skim through the books, and see if there are any that you find appealing. A text which is used widely is Sullivan's Algebra and Trig:

Yeah i know this is probably basic stuff for most of you!! But i'm a total dummy when it comes to technical stuff.

So basicly, what do i use to get Mp3's onto my phone. is it imesh?? and how do i get it? and is it free? and will it give the computer viruses??

How do you save an edited photo on a mac? The "save" button isn't working for me lol.?

I keep trying to crop a photo in iphoto and then save it. When I click on the save button, then close iphoto, the picture goes right back to the way it was before. If you do, it is very likely that you just killed your chances of being successful. There is nothing wrong with simplicity. But being over-simple by trying use slang just makes you sound like you didn’t get a good education.

Many people try to sound sophisticated by speaking with complex sentences. This can be extremely risky. When you speak with complex sentences, you increase the chances of mixing up the words. With English, you can be simple, but sophisticated at the same time. People will be much more receptive to the things you have to say if you speak in every day language (just not slang). Unless you are highly skilled, avoid the use of complex sentences.

· A Failure to Speak or Write Carefully

This is a mistake that gets a lot of people in trouble. They speak without taking the time to think carefully about the words that come out of their mouth. Not only can this cause your audience to become confused, it may also cause them to become offended if you say the wrong things. We all have been guilty of this from time to time and it is something to carefully watch.

When I say speak or write carefully, I am talking about grammar as well as the impression you make on your listeners or readers. Unfortunately this is something that many of our schools don’t teach well. I have a very good friend, a college graduate from the University of California who writes terribly. Why? I am not sure, but I know that when she was doing business proposals she would always send them to my wife (an English major) to correct the grammar. Without the corrections our friend would have seemed illiterate, yet she isn’t. And she does not speak like she writes. Interesting isn’t it? She is brilliant but a poor speller.

Seo is Search Engine Optimization. A magician's bag of tricks to get your web page on high SERP (Search Engine Rank Placement ) and High PR (Page Rank). SERP is when you search on Google for a keyword. SEO is the art of getting your web page to be listed for as many keywords pertaining to your site on the first page of hundreds. Since people have short attention spans, they tend not to search ten pages of returns to find your page.

To get high SERP you can bid on keywords, through Google and other search engines you can bid on certain keywords. Every time someone clicks on my add in blue at the top and sides of Google pages (These are the auction listings, I will pay anywhere from .5 to $5 every time someone clicks on my site for the keywords I bid on. The one who bids the most gets to be on the first page for cats. The rest of Google is suppose to be based on scholarly research qualifications).

So you need to find a keyword that people actually look for but not too many people are bidding on. You got to niche your keyword. To find appropriate keywords you check your web logs to see what words people used in search engines to bring you to your site. Also their are online tools to use that suggest keywords and give a thesaurus of options along with how many times people searched for that keyword last month.

 

Robots are programs that scour the web following all the links on your page to each other and all the ones you list to other sites. They check to see you have good code and list your words for their directory so people can find any phrase you placed on your site. Now links to other sites within three pages of your home page toward the top of each page get better points than any deep in your site or toward the bottom of the page. Also they down score links if their is too many on a page.

To get your site index by robots you go to search engines and go to the bottom of the page and find a link called submit your URL. there you put your address in and hit return. Anywhere from 3 weeks to four months it could take a robot to find you for the first time. Then it will index you once a month unless in your pages code in meta tags you tell it to visit every day if you like. Also it is good to submit URL on search engines every time you change your home page. More times you change your home page the better for points

Now to get links is a tedious process of sending out hundreds of emails with a friendly greeting, Your site title with appropriate keyword placement in it, and site description. For their listing you, you give them a reciprocal link with their title and description on your link page. You can get people to link to you as an expert through natural linking. You can do the same for them. But if you get a link without giving one, it equals you higher points. Which in turn give you higher SERP. Other way to get natural links is to create something buzz worthy or give free tools.

Last but not least are RSS, Blogs, Newsletters, and Article submission. RSS is real Simple Syndication. It is a poor mans AP wire service. People have attachments to their browsers called aggregators that read this peculiar code. It can also have placement on your web page. Say you can have a feed from the latest news updated daily by the New York Times which helps keep fresh content on your site to get points. Or you can have people list your articles on their site giving you links back to your site. Then we have Blogs. If you blog you will put a link back to your other page. When this gets higher PR so does your other site. Also it is something else to attract clients to you in another arena. Also every time you comment on a board or blog, make sure you link back to your site in your signature. All post tend to be indexed by robots. If they find your link they come back to your page and give you points. Then newsletters you create will do the same. Links from emails count too. If you click on the links above, you will give points to that web site. But mostly newsletters are marketing to gather sales and inform the public on your product. Then we have article submission. By submitting articles to directories, they get published by other web sites and provide links back to your site.

Can you use an International Business Corporation (IBC) to pay utilities and rent a residence?

I need to remain anonymous and don't want someone finding me based on utility records and credit checks run by a landlord. I'm thinking of forming an IBC so my identity can remain anonymous. But there's no point to doing that if I cannot pay for my utilities and rent a residence using the IBC. I've already got a plan to use a dummy address for all other things like Drivers License, mail, etc. but there are some things where your name usually has to be associated with an address, such as utility bills and rental applications. Any ideas?

OP here...Not sure how to respond to previous answer...but I think you misunderstand.

An IBC is completely and totally anonymous, it is not like a US corporation at all. That's the point. IBC corporate data is most explicitly NOT public information - it is filed in a different country and they do not make it public. I would not actually be performing any business with the IBC at all, so zoning wouldn't come into play.

As for fake address for the drivers license - I didn't say it was fake, I said a dummy address, which is the address of someone I know, with whom I could argue that I spend part of my time there if pressed.

Property is rented by corporations all the time instead of individuals...they don't run credit checks on the officers of the corporation. If microsoft rents a building, are they running Bill Gates credit report and get his local personal references? I doubt it. Corporations rent property all the time, all over the place. They are legal entities.

IF the property is zoned for business, then why wouldnt' a utility company turn on power for a corporation's account? It may cost a bit more, but the goal here was my personal anonymity, not price.

How can I calculate pieces/weight and currency.
Example:

For the rest of the chart, you would need a VLOOKUP, based on weight.

Your overnight/early morning column would be

I have encountered some UK free proxies to be the major fraudsters. They boast of providing anonymity but in reality some or all information is revealed to the destination site. In my experience these sites make their money from advertising or even by selling your details to the very destination site you are trying to protect yourself from.

Virus and Pop-up Advertisements
My research reveals that one of the ways that UK free proxies pay for themselves is by bombarding the user with pop-up ads so much so that it is almost impossible to view your destination site. Some of these load harmful viruses on your computer like spyware or adware, which capture your personal details and browsing history.

Proxies that Steal
UK free proxy sites are notorious for creating dummy duplicate websites almost identical to Internet banking ones. When you try to access your bank's site through the free proxy, this duplicate page opens and all your confidential information can be stolen. I would strongly suggest that you do not use UK free proxies for any activity like this. This is the easiest way for online fraudsters, credit card thieves and identity thieves to deceive you.

At the end of the day, the key decider is what you are using the proxy for. If you are using it for serious work then make sure you know who owns the proxy, where its located and how reputed it is. Your research will probably eliminate the use of a free proxy. If you are doing something less important like trying to access a networking site from your school or work and annoyingly it's blocked, using a UK free proxy is fine in my opinion.

Always bear in mind however that your personal information will always be at risk with a free proxy and if that's the case, why use it at all? You may be far better off considering a trusted and well respected anonymous proxy service instead.

What Happened to the Regulators?

Former Senator Phil Gramm of Texas, ten years ago,  authored  what became known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.  Passed in 1999, the act repealed the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, which had separated commercial and investment banking.  David Leonhardt wrote in the New York Times, “The point of Gramm-Leach-Bliley was to tear down the wall, built by Glass-Steagall, separating banks that did risky investing from those that did basic lending.  (The mingling of those two helped create a cascade of bank failures during the Depression.)”  (1)

One of the few dissenters at the time (the bill passed 90-8) was Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, who said, “I firmly believe…that we are with this piece of legislation moving towards greater risk, we are almost certainly moving towards substantial new mergers and concentration in the financial services industry.  That is almost certainly not in the interest of consumers." (2)

He also said, “I think we will look back in ten years’ time and say we should not have done this, but we did because we forgot the lessons of the past, and that that which is true in the 1930s is true in 2010.”  (3)

One of Gramm-Leach-Bliley’s effects was to make regulation more difficult.  A number of economists, including the Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz, have blamed the current financial crisis, at least in part, on that bill.  (4)

Paul Krugman, another Nobel Prize-winning economist, suggested last year that if McCain won the election and appointed Phil Gramm Treasury Secretary, “We could manage to have another Great Depression if we work at it hard enough.  I think Phil Gramm might be just the guy to do it.”  (5)

Another piece of legislation that helped pave  the way for our current financial mess is the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.  Rachel Maddow offers a cogent if slightly awkward summary:  “That one said that certain things that financial companies do to spread their risk around, to keep their balance sheets looking good even when they’re making hugely risky deals.  These are things like credit default swaps and collateralized debt obligations….This legislation decided that those things, those risk-hiding things would be completely exempt from regulation.  Completely exempt.  They would not be regulated.”  (6)

Senator Dorgan was quite right.  A return to regulation is essential to free this nation from its financial doldrums and keep it economically secure.  There is no sense in repeating proven follies time and time again.  As Einstein said, that is the definition of insanity.

Psychology of Stress, Anger and Influence

Major influence principles on/of others is important in reducing stress and anger related diseases among people in various positions in life. Inversely, personal behavioral and terminology influence others positively or negatively. In recent study of stress and safety researchers show that people are more mobilized by realizing that they will lose than what they might gain. In one study,  home owners received an energy audit with a list of conservation strategies. Half the residents were offered an average of 75 cent per day if they followed the advice; others were informed to lose 75 cents per day if they did not follow instructions.

The results show that those with loss control instructions made significant changes than those receiving the bonus money. This is a type of scarcity notion, in business management, the managers system carry the slogan “this is a list of what you are missing”. They emphasize the limited number of opportunities  to receive enough information. The more information increases the ability of workers to excel. In universities usually provide orientations to new students to be aware of the various activities and services provided by university departments and sections. Instructions cover the physical, mental, psychological, social, and intellectual avenues of human life on campus. For example, student life in dorms, regulation and applications needed for certain activities, safety, library sites and services, sports, news, counseling services, job opportunities, rewards ,  lost and found, mailing, lecture rooms, maps, parking, restaurants, etc.,    

Those who do not attend these orientation are losing time and energy to find out about university services, rules, regulations, and opportunities.  While those who were attendants of orientation seminars have excelled more than those who did not attend. They are involved in activities such as reciprocity of returning favors, and scarcity evaluation and selection of rare opportunities, more following authority figures who are trustworthy with credentials, and have consistency by keeping promises they give, while following others or imitate them in favorable actions. These orientations were made to reduce tension and stress among students, and encourage them to promote friendship with  people like themselves with  common goals and values. While this not totally true, many people who did not attend orientation seminars depend more on themselves, and become knowledgeable in what they need to know.  While orientations may give a large number of information, not all of it necessary for all students. So I believe the search to know something you need is necessary to search for it. The influence of others on adult is almost acceptable, in listening, discussion, searching, and following reasoning in matters needed in any business. People in terms of authority trust certain other people as credible and trustworthy and neglect those who are not. Optimism may be a factor here, where people like to hear encouraging statements rather than disappointing ones, for example, saying disappointing statement: “If we do not follow instructions to solve the problem, we all will be in serious trouble” have different influence on hearers, than the statement says:“If we follow instructions carefully, we will succeed in our plan”.

In terms of consensus, saying : “ we must do something because  anarchy and disobedience of rules become the rule” is harder to grasp than saying “we must set-up  stress awareness program to help employees get job satisfaction”. Because when our  communication implies many others perform undesirable target behavior, we provide a normative excuse.

  In terms of  Anger, psychologically, is the most social principle influencing others. Appropriate statements actions may reduce anger and give listeners and  invited them to  act in certain situations differently, especially among young children, for example, a statement preferable for a mother to her husband or kids, to say “Dinner is ready” than “come and eat, before food becomes cold”  or in other situation between a Mom and her four years daughter using this statement “Good girls like to be clean, or I do like always to see you clean, honey” instead of “You spoiled your dress, dummy! ” or “Shame on you, you disappointed me”. Readers know better now if they follow some of the advices in this article, I hope! How do I set up a Minor Bench Burner for lampwork beads?

Hi all:

I have been using a hothead/MAPP gas set up for a couple of years now. I got a minor bench burner and I am so confused as to how to set it up. The regulators came with instructions, but I don't really understand them. The hose package had instructions, but not very clear ones and no pictures. I need like "how to set up a minor bench burner for dummies" tutorial or something. I can't find anything online. Can anyone help, please???

I was on a minor until I recently upgraded to a Minnow.. Here is how I set mine up..

BBQ sized propane tank ---> Propane Regulator ----> Quick Connect device for easy on and off of the hose ----> Red Propane hose ----> To the Minor with the hose clamps clamping the hose onto the torch..

Then I have oxygen concentrators but this would work the same for O2 tank.. Concentrator to the hose to the torch... Or for 02 it would be Tank to the regular to the quick connect to the hose to the torch..

I know it can be kinda overwhelming.. I waited for months to set mine up because I was freaked about the whole thing but you will notice a huge difference in your techniques and abilities with a dual gas torch.
