Web Page Design class?

I'm going to be taking a web page designing class this year and I'm new to it. I've been working a little bit with Java, Java for dummies so far. I was wondering if there were any websites or good books thats anyone knew of that can help get some knowledge before I start it. Thanks

I've been doing website design since the days of Mosaic (the thing before Netscape).

Some suggestions:
-Learn PHP, now.
-Learn Javascript, now.

Once you're familiar with HTML, PHP and Javascript, learn XML and SQL.

Once you can afford to buy a copy, get Flash. All the other programs are free, but Flash costs about $400 unless you can find it with a discount.

HTML, PHP, Javascript, XML, SQL and Flash are more important than Java for website design.

Some notes:
-MySQL is a free SQL program.
-"Ajax" means "Javascript and XML together."
-XML is very similar to HTML.
