What is the best way to teach myself Spanish other than taking classes?

I've taken four full years of Japanese in high school, and now that I'm in college I'm interested in learning to speak and write (mainly speak however) in different foreign languages.

Unfortunately, though I wanted to take classes, i just don't have the time! And i use up all of my units taking the classes I need! so i've been to Borders looking for books that help the individual learn to speak Spanish, but i don't know what the best method is to do this without wasting too much money?

should i just grab spanish for dummies or something?

hmm.. the best way to learn a language is PRACTICE.
I mean, it helps taking classes/reading books... but it will take a lot more time... and I don't think that's the best way to go.
That's how I learned English, I went to a elementary school in U.S.A. for 7 years (but I lived in Mexico, so I crossed the border everyday)..
the teachers wouldn't allow us to speak Spanish.. (not even at recess).. so we were forced to practice English, and honestly I didn't pay that much attention at class (language arts, etc.) It helps to learn the grammar rules... but mostly I just learned by practicing..
so that's my theory...

I recommend you learn as much as you can from a books like Spanish for dummies haha.. but also take as an option trying to practice with friends who know Spanish, or even visiting some place where people speak Spanish..

good luck!
