life insurance w.o my permission...lawsuit?

i have a friend who has recently fallen on hard times. she stole 1300 from my wachovia checking acct to finance a series of dummy insurance policies for the sake of gaining a sizeable commision. two of her dummy policies include both my son and i. she also has policies on two of our mutual friends and her cousin and her cousin's son...all without our permission. the reason she has all our information is bc when she started at New york Life, we all opened insurance policies to support her. all the policies were legit. not too soon after, we all had the same issue: unauthorized amounts were being deducted from our accounts resulting in multiple nsf fees. when we complained, she played dumb. i cancelled my acct and had to ppen a new checking acct bc the unauthorized drafts wouldnt stop. do we have grounds for a class action lawsuit?

Not enough people involved to meet the definition of a class action lawsuit.

And, obviously, what she's done is criminal, rather than personal injury. Stealing and forgery. You don't actually have any monetary loss besides your stolen money and bounced check fees.

Anyway, you need to file police reports - all of you - and report her to your state insurance department's website - the fraud unit - and file complaints with the company she works for.

Online Investing For Dummies

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]

Online Marketing

In order to measure how your business's marketing campaigns are performing, it's important to understand the whole series online marketing metrics like CPL and CPA.

1. CPC: This usually stands for Cost per Click, which is probably the most popular advertising model online where an advertiser only pays when their ad is actually clicked on. With search advertising the actual cost per click is usually based on an auction system. Conversely some display advertising has cost per clicks that are a flat rate.

To complicate matters slightly, CPC sometimes stands for Cost per Call – meaning the amount an advertiser has to pay for every call generated to their business.

2. CPM: This often confusing abbreviation stands for Cost per Thousand. In this case, the "M" is actually the Roman numeral for thousand. Cost per Thousand is an advertising model where advertisers pay per thousand of impressions and is often used with display (banner) advertising.

3. CPL: Cost per Lead expresses the cost of generating a lead for your business through advertising. The term "lead" is often used somewhat loosely and can mean different things to different businesses depending on what their marketing strategy and goals look like. For one business "a lead" could be a person signing up for an email newsletter whereas for another business "a lead" could be a prospect emailing for a free consultation or actually calling into the business for more information.

Because leads are often (no pun intended) leading indicators to new customers and more money in your pocket, Cost per Lead is an important measure of how your advertising is paying off.

It is easy to Calculate your CPL:
CPL = Total number of leads generated/ Total cost of advertising to generate those leads

4. CPA: Cost per Acquisition represents the amount of total cost associated with actually getting a new customer. This metric is extremely important in that whereas "leads" only represent an interested prospect, "acquisitions" represent paying customers.

CPA = Total number of new customers/ Total cost of advertising to generate those new customers

The one potential problem with using CPA as your primary metric for your advertising arises when you have long sales cycles such that you don't know your real CPA until months later (making it very difficult to use CPA in order to optimize your advertising in real time). In such cases, advertisers often defer to their CPL.

In addition, some advertising programs a business can participate in are based on a "CPA model" – meaning that the advertiser only pays when they actually acquire a new customer. Although rare, these types of advertising arrangements are advantageous in that they nearly eliminate all potential risk for the advertiser of paying for ads that don't generate results.

5. ROI: Your Return on Investment is the final, end-all-be-all, rubber-meets-the-road metric that represents the rate at which your advertising is paying off – not just in terms of new customers, but in terms of actual revenue.

You can calculate as follows:
ROI = (Revenue generated from advertising – Cost of advertising)/ Cost of advertising

For instance, let's say you spent $2,000 in search advertising from which you ultimately derived $10,000 in revenue. Your ROI would be: ($10,000 - $2,000) / $2,000 or $8000/$2000 or 400%

Real Estate Investment for Dummies

"If you are interested in getting involved in the business of real estate, there are a few basics that you need to know before you get started. For most, making that first purchases is the hardest step because the jargon and paperwork involved with the business can seem a bit overwhelming. In addition, there are so many different types of properties to purchase that investing in real estate can seem downright confusing.

In order to simplify the process and to get started in the business of real estate investment, there are three major areas you must consider. These areas include:

• Getting comfortable with the market

• Knowing your strong points

• Establishing your goals

Once you have taken care of these three areas, you will find that it becomes much easier to buy and sell real estate for profit.

Getting Comfortable with the Market

You most likely will never be completely comfortable with the real estate market until you actually start to dabble in it. The more you buy and sell real estate, the more you will learn and the better you will be able to understand how to gain the most profit from your investment. At the same time, you need to become somewhat comfortable with the process before you begin.

The best way to get comfortable with the business of real estate investment is to get to know other investors and to learn from them. There are many ways you can accomplish this, including:

• Attend Real Estate Investment Association meetings

• Talk with other investors and learn from their stories

• Partner with other investors – you can even offer to do some work for free while they teach you the ins and outs of the business

You can also learn a great deal about the real estate business by watching listings and sales. The MLS is a good way to keep up with sales information, while some counties also publicize sales in their local newspapers. By watching the market closely, you will begin to notice trends that can help you maximize your profits and minimize your risks.

Knowing Your Strong Points

There isn’t necessarily a “right” way to approach a real estate deal. Rather, you need to understand your own strengths and weaknesses so you can approach the deal from the angle that works best for you. To help you better understand your strengths, you might have to do a little trial and error. You should also choose just one area in which you can specialize. Areas of specialty may include:

• Foreclosures

• Pre-foreclosures

• Rehabs

• Quick flips

Once you become comfortable with one area of specialty, you can expand your business to include other types of real estate investments if you desire.

Establishing Your Goals

No business can be a success without first establishing clear business goals, the same is true when it comes to real estate investment. To help you better develop a business plan, you must first decide where you are going. For example, if you are just looking to generate a little side income, you might look into investing in fixer uppers or into flipping houses. If your goal is to earn a sizeable income, however, you will need to think bigger.

Whatever your long term goals may be, you can create a business plan that will help you achieve that goal. This will involve developing several small goals along the way that will help you monitor your progress and stay on track.

The business of real estate investment can be quite profitable and can be of very little risk if you approach it wisely. Do your homework, be honest with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses, and establish goals and you will be sure to be a success."

Currency Trading for Dummies

It is now possible for any one with a computer and an internet connection to trade in currency. In a world that is cut down to size by the powers of globalization, an investment in currency is the equivalent of investing in a combined world market. A new forex investor must understand the basic concept of foreign exchange investment. It is much unlike a traditional investment that promises a potential profit. It can be considered a hedge against inflation which is a result of the fluctuation of the local currency.

Simply put, a forex dealer buys or sells currency in the belief that its value will go up or down. The only difference between investing in currency and equity trading, is that here you are trading in direct cash. For instance, if you are buying US Dollars that simply means that you expect the US economy to do better than what it is right now.

Major banking institutions play a huge role in regulating the forex markets. They are responsible for maintaining their own balance of trade and ensuring the stability of the economy. When a currency market begins to fluctuate widely owing to large scale speculation, the banks intervene and ensure that stability is restored.

Currency trading is always done in currency pairs such as the USD and the EURO. Buying forex implies buying the first currency and at the same time selling an equivalent amount of the second currency. A trader who deals in forex speculation buys a pair in the belief that the rates for the base or first currency will go up or the corresponding exchange rate will go up.

The forex market was traditionally dominated by a few leading banks and financial institutions. Development in technology has lowered the barriers of entry to the forex markets considerably and opened them up to a new breed of foreign currency investors and speculators.

The currency market is truly a 24-hour market and technically trading is possible at all times. The trading offers a high degree of liquidity and better efficiency as compared to an equity market. Large volumes and fewer instruments help generate greater intra-day volatility, thus creating better opportunities to earn profits.

[simplecontent lang="" source="flickr"]git for dummies[/simplecontent]
Computer crash due to popular networking site?

Ok, I was in the friends section of this site. And the active x came up, I did not click on it. But the computer locked and AVG started saying that trojan horse dropper agent.git was attacking the computer-- like a dummy I clicked heal, this happened about 12 times, so I keep clicking heal. Also, trojan horse downloader generic 5.blu also decided to show as well!

This virus used AVG to destory my laptop, it created a password to lock me out after rebooting(or was hijacked by someone using he trojan to get in). It would not let me restore(it cleared out old restore points) it disable the c: drive, changed homepages cleared files for yahoo, wifi, msn, once again I tried rebooting and it locked me out completely this time. We have tried to crash it, to reinstall everything but I can not even get in.

Any ideas?

From what I have read on the Internet, this Trojan is malware and it messes the windows registry up. It wasn't caused by this site or AGV antivirus. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix this issue other that reinstall windows.

Retirement For Dummies

retirement for dummies
Can I buy into more than one mutual fund?

I am an investing dummy..Just know I need to save for retirement....I have a Scottrade account with a ROTH, and currently only have added funds to the IRA to fund CAIBX. Can I add additional funds to my account and buy into other mutual funds in this same IRA? If so, any one that anyone would suggest for a moderate risk?
I am very good in my profession, but please explain as if you were explaining to a 12 year old, as I am lost in your explanations

Yes you can buy more than 1 mutual fund and since your primary concern is investing you can attain good asset allocations by investing in more than one mutual fund.

Yes you can expand your IRA o ROTH IRA with additional funds.

Without having more information about your personal information, such as age, current income and other data such as risk tolerance, martial status, and demographics it would be very inappropriate for me or any other responsible person to provide specific investment information in this type of media.

Also it would not be appropriate for any professional to provide any specific investing advice based on the information provided. And it would not be prudent for you to accept any investment advice from unknown individuals here at YA or a similar media.

There are many people just like you that are, or were looking to invest and those that did bought Mutual Funds and/or Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). One purpose of mutual funds is to help investors like you, who are either just entering the investment world or who have no investing experience. Once you feel you at least have an understanding of investments you should look into ETFs which are similar to mutual funds but are traded on the exchanges.

Mutual Fund companies as well as ETFs have an entire array of products many will fit your needs. Read about the various products and in doing so you will be getting investment ideas and at the same time educating yourself about investing.

You could also contact the funds companies for more information. I have found that Vanguard (http://www.vanguard.com/) & Fidelity Investments (https://www.fidelity.com/)
can meet your needs for mutual funds. The service and information they provide is all free and you will find it helpful. Or you can call Scottrade and speak to one of their Reps that specialize in fund products, once again this service is free.

Good luck on your journey

Mortgages and Lending for Dummies?

Hi there, I'm currently moving jobs within a Building Society, from the investment and banking side of the business to the mortages and lending side. I'm in my early 20's and so haven't even considered getting a mortgage or even my own place yet, so my knowledge on the subject is pretty limited (glad I didn't need to have an interview then :P )

Can anybody give me a brief run down of terms and subjects I will expect to encounter, so I know what to look for when doing some more research before I move on Monday. If it helps, I'm in the UK and my role will be more focused on valuations of property.

Thanks for any help!

I;m in the US - working almost 10 years in the mortgage business. When qualifing for a home loan - three things are considered right away.

Your credit rate - this is something your can work on, the higher your score, the better, loan you can qualify for.

Your Income - you need to have a stable work history (past 2yrs), and high must you make determines how much of a loan you can qualify for.

Your equity - must loans today required a down payment, the more you put do, the better the loan.

If your in your early 20's - slow down and put money in the bank. Work on your credit score, - learning about revolving and installment debt.

Good Luck

stock market dummy training?

I have seen in the webpage fxcm.com that they let you "trade" currencies when you open a training account; they give you 50k FAKE money, so you can train before going into the real stuff. Is there something similar but for the stock market??

Yes there is. You can use the simulator on investopedia.com or use virtualstockexchange.com

Hope this helps!
