Notebook Reformatting - guidance needed for a dummy!?

Yes, the question speaks for itself. I'm a bit (a bit? I doubt - lets try, VERY)... yes, I'm VERY blur, slow, dumb dumb when it comes to technical matters such as this. I need to reformat my notebook. Details of my notebook are as follows:

Notebook Type: COMPAQ Presario V3106
Processor: Core Duo 1.6Ghz
RAM: 512MB DDR2
Hard Disk: 80GB
Optical: Combo
Screen: 14.1" WXGA
Graphics: Intel GMA 950
Graphics Memory: max 128MB
WIFI: Yes
Bluetooth: No
Camera: No
Weight: 2.4Kg
Card Slot: 5-in-1
OS: No
Others: Altec L Speakers

Can anyone guide me through the process from A to Z and ensuring by the time after I'm done with the reformatting and stuffs, all will be ok and back to normal. Please? Really could use some help here...

Thanks in advance!!!

Before proceeding with formatting you need to have the following with you;
1. The utilities CD for your laptop - usually supplied with the laptop at the time of purchase. This CD contains all the drivers for your laptop. If you do not have this, then you need to first download all the required drivers from the manufacturers website.
2. You need th operating system CD
3. The office applications CD

If you have all the above, then run the backup of all your data before starting.

Doing setup is not hard, you only need to follow the setup wizard prompts.

Boot your computer from the CD after making the CD as the default or the first boot device in the BIOS setup.

Otherwise if you are really dumb in setting up a computer, especially a laptop, I would strongly recommend you take your laptop to a computer technician to run setup for you.
It is very delicate if you are not familiar with set up.
