Creative Writing For Dummies

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]

Are there any books on writing fantasy?

I'm a writer and the only genre that I write is Fantasy. I already have Stephen King's On Writing, Creative writing for dummies, and Writing fiction for dummies.

I want to get a book which will give me advice on how to write fantasy and fantasy only.
Do you know any books?

The books you already have will stand you in good stead - the basics of good writing are the same in any genre.

The only books I've read specifically about fantasy are "Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction" by Lisa Tuttle, and "The Rivan Codex" by David and Leigh Eddings.

"The Rivan Codex" is more of a behind the scenes look at how they created the world of the Belgariad and Malloreon series. It's interesting to see how much planning they did, and how much of it they used and how much they didn't. It has some advice on writing fantasy in general. You'll probably find it helpful to read The Belgariad first, but you don't need to read the Malloreon unless you really want to.

A couple of websites you might find useful as well:

http://rinkworks.com/fnovel/ - a list of clichés to avoid like the plague.

http://coyotecult.com/communities/sfandf_critters/references/limyaael.php - Limyaael's Rants (her word, not mine) - lots of good advice about fantasy. Sometimes rude or blunt; also sometimes very funny.
