Apple Mac users!! How do i cut a song in garageband to 30 secs for use as a ringtone? simple, helpful answers ?

please! Im so sick of asking on Apples message board & you very rarely get a straight foward answer, its like the give you a riddle to solve first!!

I havent used garageband before so i have no clue how it all works. I do know that once i have cut the song to size, i cant send it to itunes(barring any problems there of course).

So basically im looking for the dummies guide, as apple users have given me a headache.
I meant to write that i CAN send it to itunes
I followed this instruction & i was almost there but itunes wouldnt allow me to put it in the ringtone file OR transfer it to my iphone at all even as a song!

this is the instruction i meant

import the song to garageband. Put it on the time line at the bottom.
hover over the right hand side of the bar for the track (the cursor will change). Click and drag to the left. The bar should get smaller. Drag to the 30 second point, then save and export.
