Using VC++ Read and Edit PDF File and Output Results?

I am sent a pdf file every month that has probably 30K lines in it, and what I really need to see is about 1K or so. It is very hard to compare section to section when there are 50 lines of meaningless junk in between.

I am an experienced VC++, and K&R C programmer, so I probably don't need any help with the specific code writing. I need to find some library or other set of tools that will let me read in a pdf file, delete portions of the stream, and output back into pdf format.

I know that there are a plethora of pdf->rtf stand alone converters, where I can use software to convert the file to rtf, then I could edit, and finally output in pdf. This requires multiple programs, and a lot of human intervention. For reasons that are unimportant here, I need for this to be able to operate as a stand alone executable file. Sort of a Convert for Dummies.

Haven't been able to find any libraries but you can get the PDF file specification from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pdf/pdf_reference.html

Try This Shed Building Info Resource Rather Than a Shed Building "Dummies" Book

A few years ago I promised my wife I'd build a shed to hold her gardening supplies.  To seal the deal, she bought me a "shed building for dummies book."  It contained lots of useful information.  Actually, it provided too much information, and lots of it was unnecessary for me to get the job done.

I'm the kind of guy who just wades right into DIY projects with only a general concept in my mind as to what the final result will look like.  My motto is, "Ready, fire, aim."

I frequently launch do-it-yourself building projects without too much preparation.  I rarely make a detailed list of the building materials I'll need, or will I work up a rough drawing of the intended result.  As for searching the Internet to track down a professionally done set of plans or a working blueprint -- forget it.

Anyone who has built anything knows this is a risky way to construct a structure -- especially a structure as large as a storage shed.

If you're planning to build a storage shed, first get a detailed drawing and building plan for your intended structure before you drive a single nail.

Your building plan should include a comprehensive list of materials.  This list will enable you to budget properly.  It will also show you what size to cut all the wood pieces so you can assemble them properly.

If you've never built a shed before, make sure of what you plan to accomplish before starting such a project.

These are just a few factors you must consider before building a shed:

  • # Selecting an appropriate building site

  • # Site preparation

  • # Ventilation requirements

  • # Installing a source of electricity

  • # Security measures

  • # Long-term maintenance

There are many "dummies-type" shed construction books on the market that you could use to get smart.  However, if you're familiar with tools and have any building experience at all, I'd bet a good set of building plans should give you all the information you need to do a great job.

When you're selecting a set of building plans, it is vital to make sure a professional drew up those plans and that they conform to your local building codes.

It took me a few weeks working weekends to complete the shed for my wife's gardening supplies. I have no doubt I could not have done the job properly if I did not first get a comprehensive building plan. The result would have been a mediocre, unattractive and possibly unsafe building.

However, I built a well-constructed, good looking shed that fits our needs exactly.  It went up with a minimum of problems and it meets all of the local building codes.

It was a do-it-yourself success.

Get everything you need to plan and expertly build a DIY storage shed and to tackle virtually any do it yourself woodworking or carpentry project you envision

Whether you're an expert carpenter or a beginner, here is where you get clear, detailed DIY storage shed plans along with step-by-step instructions, manuals and drawings.  For expert advice and a galaxy of woodworking and carpentry plans for projects that will enhance your home and property and make your life easier

GMAT Books

Graduate Management Aptitude Test or GMAT is a computer adaptive test which measures the verbal, mathematical and analytical skills of an examinee. By adaptive it is meant that the difficulty of the test is constantly changing as per the ability of the examinee. The scores obtained at the GMAT are factored the most by leading B-Schools (business schools) across the globe for entry into their respective graduate programs. The exam takers are many and therefore the battle to get into the top slots is the toughest.

800 is attributed as the ‘Perfect Score’ i.e. the maximum that you can achieve in your GMAT test. Race to achieve that or to get as close as possible to the magic number begins amongst the many GMAT takers. Even though the GMAT exam is a computer based test and it is advised that an examinee must practice as much as possible through online mock tests just to get used to the thick of the action, the GMAT books also play an integral part in the preparations.

There is a high probability of you reaching a bookstore and finding ‘n’ number of GMAT books, with contributions from national and international authors, endorsed by famous and not so famous publication houses. All of this is so confusing for a first timer that he/she sometimes fails in making that right choice of a GMAT book.

After an in-depth research and my own experience I would like to recommend the following GMAT books which are structured to provide you with best preparation for your D-day:

• The Official Guide for GMAT review by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC)

• The Official Guide for GMAT verbal review by GMAC

• The Official Guide for GMAT quantitative review by GMAC

• Math Workout for the GMAT by Princeton Review

• GMAT - CAT by Arco

• GMAT Critical Reasoning Bible by David M. Killoran

• Ace the GMAT by Brandon Royal

• GMAT for Dummies by Scott Hatch J.D. and Lisa Hatch

• Kaplan GMAT 800 by Eric Goodman

I wish you the best for your GMAT preparation and hope the above mentioned GMAT books give you an excellent start-up for a great education and a subsequent career.

Affiliate Marketing for Dummies - Learn Internet Marketing

What Is Affiliate Internet Marketing?

Tech Talk In Biblical Terms: Peter has 1000 fishes and he desperately wants to sell them, Paul and the whole village help Peter sell his fish in return for a percentage of his profits. In the Dot Com World Peter is called a "Merchant," "Advertiser," or "Vendor," Paul and the whole village are called "Affiliates" or "Publishers." Affiliate marketing is a business involving promoting other peoples products in exchange for money (commission). Once you start promoting other peoples products you become an affiliate of a person or of a company. To make money for yourself and a merchant - YOU need to market products predominantly via the internet. Hence the terms affiliate internet marketing. A merchant has to agree to pay an affiliate a percentage "Per Sale," "Per Lead" or "Per Click." Some merchants agree to pay an affiliate a higher commission rate if they can generate lots of sales. This is called "Performance Based Commission Structure" which is very popular in the finance and gaming industry.

How Much Money Can YOU Make Working Online In Affiliate Marketing?

The SKY is the LIMIT! Here are a few earnings figures for you. A fellow affiliate friend made $64,521 in just 4 weeks, Michael was working on his PC for only a few hours a day. Another affiliate friend I know makes $41 in 10 minuets by using his cell phone and smart internet marketing techniques.

If you want a book, pick up one of those PC Hardware Maintenance & Repair Guide books. Maybe it was like PC Upgrade & Repair Bible, or something. There are different editions coming out all the time, so pick up the latest one.

Web sites:

Medical Terminology For Dummies

Medical Transcription Software: Everything You Need to Know About Medical Transcription Software

Medical transcription is a useful process of converting reports in the form of voice recordings into text format. The reports, usually dictated by healthcare professionals and physicians, contain basic, updated, and confidential data about a patient. The end products are called ‘report,’ ‘medical record,’ or ‘transcript.’ Such information comprises a patient’s medical history. Indeed, this has become an important and very promising industry. It is not surprising that different transcription software products have emerged.

For quite a while, medical reporting has been consuming so much time. The typical and conventional process of transcribing medical reports has become outdated. Usually, a report in text format could be attained in about a week at the fastest. However, many practitioners and patients are not contented about it. The introduction of medical transcription software has made it speedier for healthcare practitioners and transcribers to come up and produce reports in just a day or two. The accuracy is never compromised despite the accelerated speed, though. In fact, many rave about the absence of abbreviation and handwritten notes that are commonly found in conventional transcriptions.

The use of these software does not make dummies out of medical transcribers. Contrary to common and instant perceptions, these professionals are not deprived of their jobs. The software would not displace them. In fact, the computer programs are designed to aid them and make their jobs easier, more enduring, and more accurate. Many medical transcribing companies are raving about the fact that their medical transcription productivity is significantly bolstered once they invest in and use the transcribing software.

The use of these software requires certain traits and features in professional transcribers. For one, the professionals should demonstrate high-level skills in using and operating basic office computer and equipment. Most of such software products need to be learned and mastered before being used. That is why many transcription companies allocate ample time in teaching their transcribers use and operate specific transcription software. Some of such products may be too hard to initially understand and use, while others recognize this problem and have made their basic features easy to understand and use.

Of course, the use of medical transcription software does not set aside basic requirements in transcribing professionals. The transcribers must still be most knowledgeable about basic and advanced medical terminologies. They also must have strong memory and verbal communication skills; must be able to check, sort, and verify numerical figures accurately; must be able to follow written and verbal instructions; must have good typing skills; must know about correct grammar; and must apply practical punctuation and capitalization when writing. Some companies require professionals to have sufficient experience in the past about medical reports transcription.

medical transcription software has made the medical transcribing industry more productive. Reports could now be more accurately and in less time. Learn more about medical transcription software by visiting http://infraware.com/MTSO_faqs.php.

Dummies Book Collection

A list of books every aspiring manager planning to pursue an MBA program must read

After teaching at some of India's most respected Business schools for the past nine years I pondered over how students at the Post Graduate Level in management can prepare for classes at a B School.

What would be an ideal pre preparation between the time a student gets an acceptance letter from a School to the day classes start. I have over the years observed certain systematic deficiencies in our college Education which reduces the student's ability to absorb the often complex and counter intuitive concepts Discussed in the MBA Class.

Students use a computer to socialize, send and receive emails and many of them are overwhelmed when required to submit online application or book tickets online. In short Internet use is limited to "fun" activities. Internet use for information gathering, data mining and research skills is the first area to prepare if you want to Excel at case analysis given by your professor. The trick is "Less is more". Do not blindly download entire articles and submit it as assignments, it is plagiarism and any good school will "reward "your effort with an "F" grade. Being stupid is better than being a cheat. Use Internet for downloading data E.g.: The five year annual P&L, BS can be downloaded from moneycontrol.com, the analysis has to be yours. Some of the best sources for data are Mckinsey, HBR, Price Water House Coopers, BCG, Accenture, E&Y research reports. Their in-depth research and authoritative reports allow you to quickly grasp maximum information in minimum time on diverse topics.

The Second area students are very weak in is crunching numbers on a spreadsheet. Remember an MBA is a program Designed for people with a minimum of three to five years work experience. People with such experience usually have spent considerable time using spreadsheets and can participate in a case discussion by crunching vast volumes of number of a spreadsheet. Example: - In the undergrad level the teacher spends one hr preparing one year P&L and BS, at the MBA Level a 10 yr P&L B/S, Cash Flow and analysis are all squeezed into one hr, naturally the teacher will not use "Chalk and talk", he will Crunch the number real time in front of the class using an excel spreadsheet, if you are not aware of spreadsheets then one Limb of MBA is closed to you, Finance. Now your options are to go for a Marketing Major or HR major and if your school offers the International Business or General Management. Excel for Dummies is a good book to teach yourself MS Excel.

As a student of MBA you will be required to work on projects in Teams, team is not a group of friends. A team is a diverse set of Individuals with mutually exclusive but collectively exhaustive skill set. You need all kinds of people in the team, Right brainers Left brainers, creative and calculative, cunning and calm. To know how to be a part of effective team and to manage a team a good Book is The McKinsey Mind: Understanding and Implementing the Problem-Solving Tools and Management Techniques of the World's Top Strategic Consulting Firm By Ethan Rasiel , Ph.D., Paul N. Friga.

MBA's need to have problem solving skills, structured thinking skills, Data analysis skills a very good book to acquire almost three years work like experience in these areas which consulting firms value is in addition to Mckinsey Mind is The McKinsey Way by Ethan Rasiel.

A good way to prepare for your life at a Good B School is to get a quick pre cursor on the subjects in the course curriculum. Here we would Recommend two books, the first is The 10-day MBA: A Step-by-step Guide to Mastering the Skills Taught in  Top Business Schools by Steven Silbiger.

The second book is What the Best MBAs Know. Published by Tata Mc Graw-Hill and edited by Peter Navarro This book has contributions from some of the top Professors from schools like Salon, Kellog, Wharton, Stanford among others. It is a very concentrated material in diverse areas like strategy to Organizational Behavior.

At the core of an MBA course like Strategy, from strategy flows Marketing, finance , Human Resources, Systems, International Business and all other subjects which tells you how to develop a enduring competitive advantage. A good place to learn the core or all MBA subject is Strategy Create and Implement the Best Strategy for your Business Published by Harvard Business Essentials. We must warn you that this material is a very concentrated discussion on Strategy and for those who have read 10 Day MBA it is likely to be Smooth sailing.

The next book on our list is more like a companion for your MBA is The Portable MBA by Nitin Nohria Part I is an encyclopedia of major business topics covering accounting, finance, marketing, manufacturing, economics, international business, management, and strategy. Part II contains sources of information.  For those of who are Hindi film buffs In Kal ho na Ho the leading lady Priety Zinta who pursues an MBA in the movie carries this book around. Use it , will do wonder's for you.

The next book we believe is only for the graduates from the Harvard Business School because only they have been taught at the school to understand What they Don't Teach you at Harvard Business School. As for the rest of us we will do well to first learn what they teach at Harvard and then go on to this book. Written by Mark H. McCormack this is a timeless classic for managers.

The last book we recommend is a Wall Street Journal and New York Times Bestseller. On the cover is a comment by the legendary Warren Buffett who says "No other management book will ever be needed" and we can't agree more. So without much further ado here is our top pick for the must read book for Aspiring managers, Managers and basically everyone who aspires to run a business " Winning" by Jack Welch and Suzy Welch.

We hope that by using the three months window between receiving the acceptance letter and the start of classes wisely by reading these books you will be battle ready to face the barrage of knowledge and negotiate the mine filed called MBA. Welcome to the 2 BEST Worst years of your life the boot camp called Masters of Business Administration.

This article is presented by Prof. Kiran Bindu, Director - International Program at ISBR Business School sharing his wide experience of 15 years in the field of Management Training & Development.

He has been associated with many top business schools and had a deep study over the individual's interest and features of various MBA Colleges across India having summarized in brief, for easy understanding of the reader to make a right decision while opting MBA in India.

What is the best book, or series of books for a beginner to learn computer repair and how to build a computer?

I am looking for a book that teaches repair, networking and any other computer things for a real beginner. I do not like the "dummies" books. I want something with a good glosarry because I don't know much of the terminology. For instance I don't know what a video card does, I assume it has something to do with the video. Whatever help you can offer I greatley appreciate.

Books For Dummies

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
books for dummies

You're a Genius, not a Dummy!

On a recent visit to a bookstore, I noticed a wealth of books for dummies and idiots, such as Computers for Dummies and Complete Idiot's Guide to Dating. I marveled at how readily we identify ourselves as dummies and idiots. We apparently think we are stupid, and these books will help.

Why do we do this? Because we have been trained to regard ourselves as dumb.

When I was little, I used to rescue all kinds of animals in the wild, nursing them back to health. One day, my mother told me, "You're just wasting your time with these dumb animals." That idea made an impression on me, and I was afraid of letting my caring nature show for many years. Mother supposedly knew everything, and if she said that showing empathy is a waste of time, then she was probably right.

Perhaps you had similar experiences that defined you as small, ugly, incapable, or unlovable. And perhaps you went on to live as if that identity was true.

Yet you are more than that! The genius you were born with is alive in you and can be accessed at any moment. Genius is your true reality, whereas limiting programming is an adopted persona. The person you were before learning self-defeating behavior, is still very much available to you.

There is a story about an elementary school teacher who checked her class roster on the first day of school. Next to each child's name was the number of a very high IQ: "126, 135, 140," Miss Everett read, eyebrows raised. "Thank goodness I finally have a bright class!"

Miss Everett went on to stimulate the loftiest abilities in these kids. She gave them challenging projects, took them on field trips, and offered them leeway to explore their creativity. At the end of the semester all the students earned A's and B's.

The day after report cards came out, the principal called her and asked, "Miss Everett, what did you do with these kids?"

"What do you mean?" she asked innocently.

"You took some of the lowest-functioning students in the school and turned them into geniuses!"

"I don't understand what you're talking about," the teacher replied. "These kids were bright when I got them. Here, just look at their IQ's in my roster."

The principal scanned her roster and replied, "Miss Everett, these are their locker numbers!"

We all tend to become who we think we are, so let us focus on the highest qualities in ourselves and others.
