How To Make A Carbon Scrubber For Dummies

There are many reasons why someone would want or need a carbon scrubber. Most medical marijuana growers these days are realizing how important keeping grow odors down especially in residential areas. While growing medically in your own house is legal there are may reasons to NOT want the entire neighborhood know what it is you are doing.

Personal privacy is something that is being downplayed these days however if you are for liberty and freedom, a right to privacy should be important to you as well. The #1 reason a medical marijuana grow is noticed is due to the smell. This has been proven time and time again and lucky for you, there is a simple diy carbon scrubber method to make your life easier as well as private.

Step One

Gather the supplies you will need which will include the following.

- 5 Gallon Bucket

- Chicken Wire

- 2 x 6"-4" duct reducers

- inline fan 4" or 6"

- activated carbon

- metal tape

- drill /screwdriver (to poke holes in the side of the 5 gallon bucket)

Step Two

Drill holes all around the 5 gallon bucket, the more holes you have the better. Just only do holes about 3/4 the way up the bucket however because when you set the fan on the 5 gallon bucket there needs to be an area without holes leaking/sucking air.

Step Three

Take your inline fan and measure the distance from the bottom of the bucket to the inline fan intake. What you will want to do is cut the chicken the diameter of the inline fan intake hole. It will either be 4" or 6" depending on the size of fan you went with. You want it so that if you placed the inline fan directly on the top of the 5 gallon bucket, you will be able to have the chicken wire fit on the intake part of the fan while not being too high to raise the fan OFF of the bucket itself.

Step Four

Once you know that the chicken wire is the right height and diameter, you will then want to place the chicken wire in the diameter needed (the chicken wire itself when cut can then be used to secure it to itself to form the tube) and then fill the outside of the chicken wire mesh with activated carbon about an 1" above the highest holes that you drilled in the bucket.

Step Five

After you have filled the activated carbon up, you simply place the fan on top of the 5 gallon bucket making sure that the chicken wire is around the fan. Make sure the bottom of the fan itself is flush with the 5 gallon bucket. Use metal tape and tape around the side where the fan meets the bucket itself.

After you have done the above all that is needed is to run the ducting to your medical marijuana grow tent or room. Don't forget to see which way the inline fan will be blowing. This setup will last far longer than any carbon scrubber that you could buy online or at a hydroponics shop. They are easy to replace carbon in and very fast to move around as needed.
