Can smartphones fully function without a sim card?
I want to buy an unlocked smartphone directly from amazon.com with full price which is around 600-700 dollar. This way the phone will be contract free and i can use it in any country.
I have two questions regarding this.
1. will the sim card slot be empty of contract free phones? or will there be some dummy piece inside it?
2. Right from starting the phone after purchasing i will only be using it for wifi. can i use the smartphone without any problem. i mean other than phone calls, text messages, can i use the entire smartphone without any problem. wi-fi, android apps, internet browsing, video, chat, camera etc. will it keep telling me to enter the sim card without going any further into the phone?
Iam considering samsung galaxy s2 or samsung infuse to buy. please help.

----------------- it will be empty
2. Right from starting the phone after purchasing i will only be using it for wifi. can i use the smartphone without any problem.
----------------- Apps that need data will need a WIFI connection.. Apps dont need data will work anytime.

----------yep... you can ALSO use Google Voice for a free phone number and free service for voice calls and text messages.... as long as your phone is connected to WIFI, then you'll get calls and texts
wi-fi, android apps, internet browsing, video, chat, camera etc. will it keep telling me to enter the sim card without going any further into the phone?
------------if you NOT on WIFI, then yes... that will be your error message (some apps need data!!!)......... if your on WIFI, then no...
