just got beginner programming for dummies and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this book?
Basically I just got this book. I understand computers a little more than the average person and I know some html. I am just getting nervous being that I am on chapter 3 and they have not taught me how to write any code at all. It is just explaining about the different languages and how things work. As I read this I get nervous and dont know if they expect me to be writing any code yet. Does anyone know anythign about this book>?
The book you are reading is teaching you the programming concepts of how to program. In all honesty, you really don't need that book to learn programming. What would probably benefit you more is a book on programming in a specific language like C++, Python or Java.
That book teaches you pseudocode, which is essentially a bare bones way of writing a program. You're not actually writing a program. It's like a book that teaches you proper grammar and sentence structure. Sure it helps, but it won't teach you how to write a real novel.
So that book really isn't expecting you to code at all. It's all just concepts on programming. Every programming language has very close similarities, but have different names. Which means that you don't necessarily need that book to learn how to program. I suggest you pick up a specific programming book for beginners and read that.
Overall, it's your choice what type of programming you should learn. You should base it off of what you want to write. If you want to write a game, I suggest C++ or Java as they allow you to write big applications.
