Stand Up Bass For Dummies?
I'm looking to buy a stand up bass, because i'm smitten over rockabilly like that =)
anyway, i need to know some stuff to start myself off! i'm a guitarist by nature, but i play bass better than some bassists i know--just not the stand-up type. i figure it can't be much harder than a combo of a bass guitar and cello (which i used to play?)... someone's going to tell me i'm wrong, huh?
-what should i know when buying one? anything to look for avoid?
-i'm looking to buy a beginner one, so what price range should i expect?
-how should i find a shop that's selling them?
-any online resources for teaching myself the techniques? i'm a hard worker / can't afford a teacher! haha
-anything else i should know?
thanks!
I thought you were asking where to get one of those washtub things they use down south. I would call that a 'standup bass for a dummy'.....
Otherwise, you can check at your library for a book on bass guitar. I don't know a lot that would help you without showing you directly. Try to talk to your local music store or guitar/bass instructor. Found a bunch of cool ones in a search the other day, electric cello's, etc. There's a lot to choose from.
Try www.dogpile.com and click on yellow pages, search for music stores near your town. Good luck, and most of all, have fun!
