Gardening For Dummies - Flower Gardening

Flowers are an eternal part of our lives. Every one loves them. They are fragrant, look good and bring joy. These are some of the reasons why flower gardening has become so popular. It has also gained fancy because not only is it simple and inexpensive but also a lot of fun. You can choose flower gardening to decorate your yard, as a new hobby or may be even professionally.

A few things need to be worked out before you decide to start the actual gardening process. What type of flowers would you like to grow? Annuals - which need to be replanted annually as they live for only one season or perennials - that come back once the winter is gone? Another thing you need to know is what type of flowers will grow easily in your area and also how much sun they need.

Before you begin planting, you need to plan your garden. Think about the kind of look you would like to have. What colors you would like and also think about the color combinations and layouts. You could choose the style of garden you like for example, a "meadow look" where different heights, colors and range are mixed together or "stepping stone style" where the plants are arranged from the smallest to the tallest. Decide your style and choose your flowering plants accordingly.

You could source your flower seeds from a nursery or even choose and order from a catalog. Another option could be that you could buy the flower plants themselves and transplant them into you garden.

Once you have made all the decisions, prepare the garden soil and buy your flowers. You could then arrange them so as to get an idea of the look and also be certain that each one of them has sufficient space.

Planting a flower garden is fairly easy. When using seeds, you just need to intersperse them on the flower bed. If you have bought actual flowers, then you need to dig a hole big enough for it. You need to remove the flower from its container and put it right side up into the hole. Cover the hole with loose dirt and pat it down firmly. Water it.

If this was easy, maintaining the garden is even easier. Use a bag of fertilizers to give them a boost, preferably early in the spring. Remember to remove faded blooms and keep the flower plants watered. To save time in the next season, remove all debris and cover the garden with organic nutrients like compost or peat moss. Do turn the soil over and smoothen it after mixing in fertilizer. In case you have perennials be very careful and don't disturb their roots.

Flower gardening in three easy steps: decide what plants you want, plant them and then water, water and water some more. No wonder then that flower gardening is becoming very popular. It is an excellent outdoor activity and lets you discover your green thumb.
